# Turlykta — turkart og Turvakt (Norwegian hiking app for iPhone)

> Turlykta is a Norwegian iPhone app that combines one of Norway's most

- Platform: iPhone (iOS). During the beta: distributed via TestFlight —

- Price: everything is free during the beta period (a stated promise).
  A future subscription for the Turvakt automation has been announced;
  beta users are promised their own price.
- Safety scope: Turvakt is a supplementary safety feature, NOT an emergency
  service, and never contacts emergency services on its own. In acute
  danger call 112 (Norway).
- The map is self-built from open Norwegian sources: 5-metre contours from
  the national laser scan, a dedicated cliff/steep-terrain layer
  (5.6 million polygons), slope layer using avalanche-map colours (27–50°+),
  2 471 marked boulders, 223 000 place names, trails from both N50 and OSM,
  and hiking/ski/bike routes from Turrutebasen (Kartverket).
- Detailed map coverage today: Oslo, Akershus, Buskerud, Telemark and Agder.
  A built-in overview map covers all of Norway; detail coverage grows county
  by county.
- Offline: download county map packs (0.2–1.3 GB) in-app; map, search and
  track recording all work without any coverage.
- Other features: typo-tolerant search, track recording with automatic trip
  naming, elevation profile for any trail, distance measuring with terrain
  length and elevation gain, minute-by-minute precipitation forecast from
  MET Norway, compass mode.
- Privacy: position is shared only with the contact the user chose, and only
  while Turvakt is armed. Track recordings stay on the phone. No ads, no

- Origin: built in Norway because a family wanted to know that grandma
  came safely home from her forest walks — the working title was
  «Finn Farmor». Today the app is called Turlykta: the lantern that lights
  the trail, and is kept burning at home until you return.
